BAM Packaging Services
Deutsche See GmbH, Germany
Deutsche See is the largest supplier of fish and seafood in Germany. They supply to the catering and
retail industries under their own, well recognised brand.
To relaunch their range of modified atmosphere, pre-packed fresh fish they worked together with the design
agency F&S to design a complete concept of primary and secondary packaging, plus a matching chilled
retail display.
The goal was to create a packaging concept which offers as much brand recognition as the classic packaging
of Toblerone Chocolate!
Christopher Buxton and Niels Matthies (at that time employees of Sealed Air GmbH) were called upon to evaluate
the feasibility of several new packaging ideas. After several meetings with Deutsche See, F&S and many production
companies one final concept was chosen.
At this point the development really started!
This included the development of new food approved inks for the printing on the inner surface of the packs,
technologies to bind two of the three components together, to establish the self-erecting characteristics of
the pack, to ensure production efficiencies could be reached. The came transport tests, shelf life tests and
of course consumer panel tests.
The result of this hard work was a range of packaging awards in Europe and America.
